Japan will take on Honduras in September in a Kirin Cup friendly match, the Japan Football Association said Friday.
The Asian champions play the Central Americans at Miyagi Stadium on Sept. 7 in a match that will serve as part of their preparations for next year's World Cup finals in Germany.
"Japan haven't had great results against Latin American teams and we need to start working on improving that," said Japan coach Zico.
Honduras reached the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup before being beaten 2-1 by the United States on Thursday and are currently 39th in the world rankings.
Japan and Honduras drew 3-3 the last time the two teams met in May 2002.
