Japan completely outclassed the Greeks but had to wait until the 76th minute to make the breakthrough when Oguro stabbed home to keep alive his side's hopes of making the semifinals of the eight-team tournament.
Japan, however, must win its next match against Brazil after the World champion went down 1-0 to Mexico in the day's other Group B match, Jared Borgetti scoring the winner to atone for missing a penalty that had to be taken three times.
