Former Cameroon international striker Patrick Mboma has decided to end his playing career after battling with injuries this season, his J. League club Vissel Kobe said Monday.

The 34-year-old joined Kobe from Tokyo Verdy last August but injuries have limited him to just four appearances this season and he said that the time had come for him to call it quits.

"Repeated injuries have been a constant cause of concern for me and the time has come for me to end my playing career," said Mboma, who scored 48 times in a total of 79 J. League appearances.

Kobe will hold a retirement ceremony for Mboma after the struggling club's Nabisco Cup game at home to Omiya Ardija on Saturday.
