Japan made it two wins out of two in its qualifying campaign for the 2007 rugby World Cup after overpowering South Korea away 50-31 Sunday.
The victory put Japan on a maximum 10 points following a 91-3 demolition of Hong Kong in its Asian zone opener in Tokyo last week and secured its place in the top division.
Japan surrendered the lead early on but a try in first-half stoppage time from winger Daisuke Ohata put it 24-17 up at the interval.
After falling behind again, the Brave Blossoms bounced back and scored four tries from the midway point of the second period and never looked back.
Japan coach Mitsutake Hagimoto was less than happy with his team's performance despite the result.
"We let South Korea take the game to us and in the first 10 minutes we were absolutely awful. I'm going to have to try one more time to properly build up this team," Hagimoto said.
The match was Japan's last qualifier of the year. Hong Kong face South Korea in Hong Kong in the three-team group next Sunday.
