The Samurai Bears, a newly formed all-Japanese team joining a U.S. independent professional baseball league, selected 14 players through a tryout Wednesday prior to the inauguration of the league next month.

These players were picked from among 19 who took part in the tryout held in Kyoto, including former high school and corporate league players as well as former players of independent leagues in North America.

They will join other applicants in a training camp in Arizona before the team finalizes the 24-man roster for the inaugural season of the Golden Baseball League, which will play games in California and Arizona.
