Japan Racing Association jockey Yukio Okabe, who has won a record 2,943 races, is set to announce his retirement, sources close to him said Wednesday.
Okabe, at 56 the oldest active JRA jockey, has had fewer riding opportunities in recent years due to a series of injuries and has been sidelined since Feb. 20 with health problems.
He is expected to hold a news conference Thursday to announce his decision.
