Former WBA super-bantamweight champion Osamu Sato said Wednesday he is ending his 10-year boxing career.
Sato won the WBA crown in May 2002 by beating Yoddamrong Singwangcha of Thailand in his second shot at a world title, only to lose it to Frenchman Salim Medjkoune in his first defense five months later.
His bid to reclaim a world title by moving up to the featherweight division failed in June 2004, when he fell by decision to Chris John of Indonesia. His lifetime record is 27 wins, including 16 knockouts, three losses and three draws.
