Hidemasa Sano set a Japanese record in winning the men's 200-meter individual medley on the final day of a World Cup meet in Berlin on Sunday.
Sano clocked 1 minute, 56.35 seconds to shave .33 of a second off the previous mark set in January last year by Athens Olympic double gold-medalist Kosuke Kitajima while Ryo Takayasu also set a new national mark of 50.84 in the men's 100-meter butterfly.
Elsewhere, Yuko Sakaguchi won the women's 200-meter breaststroke in 2:23.84.
