Japan and Kashima Antlers midfielder Koji Nakata will get a tryout with French club Olympique Marseille on Wednesday or Thursday, Marseille said on its official Web site on Wednesday.
Nakata arrived in France on Tuesday to join training of the Mediterranean club led by former Japan coach Philippe Troussier, who reportedly hopes to acquire the services of the 25-year-old.
Nakata has agreed with Kashima on a one-year contract extension but soccer officials said the J. League first-division side does not rule out the possibility of his transfer to Marseille this winter.
Nakata played in all four of Japan's games under Troussier in the 2002 World Cup finals cohosted by Japan and South Korea.
He has 46 caps for his country and has been called up by national coach Zico for the upcoming training camp prior to the Feb. 9 clash at home to North Korea in their opening match of the final round of qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
In France, fellow-Japanese Daisuke Matsui currently plays for second-division side Le Mans on loan from J. League club Kyoto Purple Sanga. Matsui scored the only goal in Le Mans' 1-0 victory over Creteil on Tuesday.
