Congratulations to the Seibu Lions on winning their first Japan Series in 12 years.
The 2004 Series saw some good performances by the foreign players on the Lions and the opponent Chunichi Dragons, and a Japanese sportswriter asked me during the just-concluded J.S., "Why is it the gaikokujin players always seem to step up during the post-season?"
Truth is, they don't always excel.
