Japanese point guard Yuta Tabuse reached a contract agreement with the Phoenix Suns for the upcoming season, NBA Japan said Monday.
Tabuse, who took part in the Denver Nuggets' preseason training camp last fall, will once again aim to become the first Japanese player to make the final 12-man roster of an NBA team when the season opens Oct. 10.
In May 2003, Tabuse left Toyota Alvark of Japan's Super League with his sights set on the NBA. He signed with Denver last September but failed to make its roster and played for the Long Beach Jam of the American Basketball Association last season.
Tabuse gained playing experience with Brigham Young University Hawaii from 2000-2002.
