Shimizu S-Pulse said Thursday that former Japan midfielder Kazuyuki Toda will remain with the J. League first-division club at least until the end of this season.
Toda, who rejoined Shimizu in late June after the completion of his loan deal at Dutch club ADO Den Haag, has agreed to play for Shimizu for the rest of the season despite his strong desire to ply his trade in Europe.
Toda joined Den Haag in January after an unsuccessful spell at English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.
Capped 20 times for his country, the tough-tackling 26-year-old played in all four of Japan's games at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea. He has been overlooked by national team coach Zico.
