Catcher Shinnosuke Abe was one of six Yomiuri Giants players picked by fans for the 11 available positions in the Central League team as the final count of the All-Star balloting returns was announced Monday.
In the Pacific League, Kenji Jojima, who received 842,783 votes for the most in either league in securing his eighth straight All-Star berth, headed a quintet of Daiei Hawks players named for the July 10-11 night games at Nagoya Dome and Nagano Olympic Stadium.
"It's an honor for any player to be evaluated highly by fans and for that I'm grateful. It's a rare opportunity to see the CL pitchers and batters in action so I'd like to enjoy it with the Olympics in mind," Jojima said.
