The Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) said Monday it will provide cash bonuses for medal winners at the Athens Olympics as well as for their coaches.
The JAAF will give gold medalists 5 million yen, silver medalists 3 million yen and bronze medalists 2 million yen for their achievements, while the coaches will earn 1.5 million yen for gold, 1 million yen for silver and 500,000 yen for bronze.
Bonuses will be given to all athletes who place among the top eight but relay members will receive only half the amount of athletes competing in individual events.
