Nobuharu Asahara and Dai Tamesue, competitors in the men's 100 meters and 400-meter hurdles, were among the 27 officially named to the Olympic team at the Japan Association of Athletics Federations board meeting on Monday.
Seventeen new names were added to the list of 10 people previously named, which included sprinter Shingo Suetsugu and hammer thrower Koji Murofushi.
With the addition of six marathon runners announced in March, the team will be composed of 33 athletes. The JAAF expects the list to be expanded after the July 11 Nambu Memorial meet in Sapporo.
