Tom Davey tossed a three-hitter over the distance Friday as the Hiroshima Carp edged the Hanshin Tigers 3-1.

Davey, formerly of the San Diego Padres, struck out 10 and issued only two walks at Koshien Stadium to improve to 3-3 for the season.

With the victory, the Carp moved to within one game of the Tigers in the Central League standings.

Infielder Greg LaRocca, who also played for the Padres before coming to Japan, went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Hiroshima attack.

At Tokyo Dome, Yoshinobu Takahashi went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs to power Yomiuri past Yakult.

Veteran left-hander Kimiyasu Kudo, who turned 41 last week, improved to 4-0 on the season after striking out 10 and giving up three runs on five hits over seven innings.

At Nagoya Dome, Tyrone Woods drove in a run with a double in the top of the ninth to lead Yokohama over Chunichi.
