Kazuo Matsui went 1-for-2 to hit safely in his fourth straight game, was issued a pair of walks and scored two runs, as the New York Mets blanked the Atlanta Braves 4-0 on Thursday.
Matsui reached on a leadoff walk in the bottom of the opening frame, moved to third on a Ricky Gutierrez' double and came home when Shane Spencer grounded out, giving New York a 1-0 lead at Shea Stadium.
He grounded into a force out at second in the third inning, went to second on a balk and scored again on Spencer's bloop single to center.
Matsui, who is 12-for-33 after nine games and batting .364, singled to right in the fifth.
