Ken Terauchi denied Kiichiro Miyamoto an eighth straight title as he won his first 1-meter springboard title on the opening day of the diving national championships Friday.
Terauchi, who has already secured an Olympic berth in the 3-meter springboard, collected 370.65 points to outscore Miyamoto by 18.75 points at Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center.
In the women's 3-meter springboard, Ryoko Nishii won her second straight crown with 488.13 points.
In the synchronized 3-meter springboard, Nishikawa and Yoshihiro Sakata successfully defended their title while Misako Yamashita and Sayaka Shibusawa won the women's discipline for the second year in a row.
