Seibu Lions first baseman Alex Cabrera broke his right forearm Tuesday and will need at least six weeks to recover, team officials said.
Cabrera suffered the injury in Tuesday's 4-2 preseason loss to the Kintetsu Buffaloes at Seibu Dome, when he was hit by a pitch from Hiroki Yamamura in his first at-bat.
The 33-year-old Venezuelan slugger hit 50 home runs last season for the Lions. In 2002, he belted 55 to tie the single-season record held by Sadaharu Oh and Tuffy Rhodes.
Cabrera is a three-time All-Star with the Lions and has a career .312 batting average.
