Three Yokohama F. Marinos players who fell ill after an Asian Champions League match in Vietnam do not have symptoms of the deadly bird flu virus, the J. League club said on Friday.
The Yokohama squad was detained in Vietnam to test the players for the avian influenza after its 3-0 victory over Binh Dinh in Quy Nhon on Tuesday.
But doctors ruled out bird flu, saying that the trio had simply caught a cold, F. Marinos said on its official Web site. The team arrived back in Japan on Friday.
Bird flu has killed 14 Vietnamese and five Thais and led to the slaughter of millions of poultry in eight Asian countries.
