Mongolian yokozuna Asashoryu toppled komusubi Wakanosato to claim his first mini tournament title Sunday.
Asashoryu, who claimed his fifth Emperor's Cup with a flawless 15-0 record at last month's New Year Grand Sumo Tournament, took out ozeki Kaio in the semifinals before flooring Wakanosato with an underarm throw in the final of the one-day event at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan.
The win earned Asashoryu 2.5 million yen in prize money while Wakanosato was awarded the fighting spirit prize for his efforts.
