Yokohama BayStars right-hander Eddie Gaillard, who signed a one-year contract with the understanding he would be used as a closer for the Central League team, said Monday he will request a multiyear deal.
With the return of closer Kazuhiro Sasaki from the Seattle Mariners, Gaillard will possibly be moved to middle relief, prompting him to seek a deal with a more promising future.
The former Tampa Bay Devil Rays pitcher has already signed a deal in which he would receive 200 million yen in 2004, plus bonuses based on the number of posted saves.
In the event the deal falls through after holding talks with Yokohama, the 33-year-old said he might look to change teams.
