American Jennifer Capriati will miss the upcoming Toray Pan Pacific Open tournament, the sponsor said Friday.
Venus Williams and Japan ace Ai Sugiyama will be among the top seeds competing at the Feb. 3-8 tournament, while Shinobu Asagoe, Saori Obata and Japan Open champion Maria Sharapova of Russia are also set to take part in the meet at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
Martina Navratilova of the United States, who has said she will retire at the end of the WTA season, will take part in the doubles competition.
A total of $1.3 million in prize money will be on offer.
