Stablemaster Futagoyama will pass the reins to son and former grand champion Takanohana, the Japan Sumo Association (JSA) said Wednesday.
On Thursday, the JSA will approve the succession of the Futagoyama stable, henceforth to be called the Takanohana stable, to his younger son, who will become stablemaster beginning Sunday.
It will mark the end of the Futagoyama stable, which was established in 1962.
