Japan will take on England in a friendly match in Manchester this summer, Japan Football Association (JFA) general secretary Takeo Hirata said Wednesday.
The match, to be played at the City of Manchester Stadium on June 1, will be the first between the two teams since England scraped together a 2-1 home win at Wembley Stadium in the Umbro Cup International International Challenge Tournament in 1995.
The JFA has been keen to increase the number of away fixtures for the national team while England will be using the match as part of its preparations for this year's European Championships, which kick off in Portugal on June. 12.
The JFA is trying to arrange another friendly against a yet-to-be-decided team in Europe on May 30.
Japan already has friendly matches penciled against the Czech Republic in Prague on April 28 and Germany at home Dec. 16.
