Midfielder Kazuyuki Toda could become the latest Japanese player to ply his trade in the top flight in the Netherlands after soccer sources on Sunday revealed he is to join up with first division club ADO Den Haag for a 10-day trial.
The tough-tackling 25-year-old, who has been told he will not be offered an extension on his loan deal at English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, watched compatriot Shinji Ono's Feyenoord thrash Haag 4-1 at home on Sunday and then left to take part in training with an eye on joining the first division struggler.
Toda joined Tottenham on a one-year contract from J. League club Shimizu S-Pulse at the start of this year but was recently told by Spurs' caretaker boss David Pleat that the north London club would not be offering him a new contract when his current one runs out in January.
Ono, who set up one of the goals in the win against Haag became the first Japanese player to play in the Dutch first division while Toshiya Fujita is currently on loan at FC Utrecht.
Elsewhere, Japan striker Takayuki Suzuki came off the bench to score his second goal in the Belgian first division to put Heusden-Zolder on the way to a 2-1 win over Mons-Bergen.
