Japanese midfielder Kazuyuki Toda said Monday he wants to stay abroad after his loan spell with English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur finishes in January.

Toda joined Tottenham on a one-year contract from J. League club Shimizu S-Pulse at the start of this year but Spurs' caretaker boss David Pleat said last week that the north London club would not be offering the tough-tackling 25-year-old a new deal.

"I didn't come here to do things halfheartedly and I want to keep plugging away," "This is a different injury to the one he had against Arsenal," Houllier said. "Maybe he could play on Thursday in Bucharest, but I do not want to take the risk. I do not gamble with his health, and if he stays behind for treatment he should be OK for the United match."
