Mongolian makuuchi division rank-and-filer Kyokutenho is set to apply for Japanese citizenship, sumo sources said Friday.
The No. 2 maegashira, whose real name is Nyamjav Tsebenkhuunyajm, told the regional bureau of the Justice Ministry of his intentions to obtain Japanese citizenship in June and will submit paperwork via a proxy as soon as the documents are ready.
"All I know is the world of sumo," Kyokutenho said. "After I have retired, I'd like to continue on in this arena and I've received the green light from my stablemaster (Oshima)."
