Japan midfielder Shinji Ono treated himself to a late birthday present with a second-half double as Feyenoord swept aside lowly Zwolle 3-0 away in the Dutch first division Sunday.
Neither side managed to create any clear-cut chances in a nervy first half and the visitors had to wait until the 53rd minute to make the breakthrough as Ono stole a yard on his marker and headed home a right-wing cross from Kees van Wonderen. It was Ono's first league goal since last December
Two minutes after coming off the bench, substitute Anthony Lurling, on in place of Robin van Persie, beat two players and slotted home to make it 2-0 in the 69th minute and the game was over as a contest in the 71st when Ono converted Dirk Kuijt's cross from point-blank range.
"I know our opponents are at the bottom of the table but goals are goals and it was nice to get some (the day after) my birthday," said Ono, who turned 24 Saturday.
The win put Feyenoord sixth in the table on 10 points from six games, five behind leader Ajax. Elsewhere, Toshiya Fujita made his sixth straight start but was replaced late in the second half of Utrecht's 3-1 home loss to Vitesse Arnhem.
