Kazuhiro Wada tripled in the winning run in the top of the 10th inning Monday to lift the Seibu Lions to a 6-5 victory over the Osaka Kintetsu Buffaloes.
Wada's triple to the gap in right-center field at Osaka Dome scored Kazuo Matsui from first as the Lions picked up a half game on idle Daiei and trail the front-running Hawks by only 4 1/2 games in the Pacific League standings.
Taketoshi Goto belted a three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to give the Lions a 5-3 lead but Norihiro Nakamura connected for a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 5-4 before Tuffy Rhodes tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with his league-leading 44th homer of the season.
