A weekly soccer academy for kindergarten and elementary school children will be held every Thursday afternoon beginning Sept. 11 at Komazawa Olympic Park in Setagaya, Tokyo, organizers have announced.
The academy, sponsored by the International Friendship Association and directed by former FC Tokyo youth development coach Jun Hirano, is open to boys and girls of all nationalities.
The coaches and students will communicate in English at the academy, but will be supported by Japanese, German and Spanish speaking instructors as well.
"We would like to use soccer to improve international understanding and friendship among the children participating and improve their self-confidence as well," says Hirano.
There will be two free sessions (June 26 and July 3) held in advance of the official opening. Former River Plate coach Jorge Busti will be a special guest at the June 26 sessions.
