The 2006 men's basketball World Championships to be hosted by Japan will be held in a 24-team format instead of the standard 16, officials of the Japan Basketball Association (JABBA) said Friday.
JABBA accepted a proposal made by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) to increase the number of nations participating in the summer competition held every four years, with the next one scheduled for 2006 in Saitama Super Arena and other venues.
