Teenager Ai Fukuhara was chosen to represent Japan in women's singles at the upcoming World Championships in Paris this spring, the Japan Table Tennis Association said Saturday.
Fukuhara, who will be 14 years and 6 months when the meet gets under way on May 19-25, has also been entered in women's doubles and mixed doubles.
Fukuhara finished third at a qualifier on Friday but was given the nod to represent Japan in the singles event on the recommendation of her coach after beating world class players Mikie Takahashi and Sayaka Hirano in head-to-head match-ups.
