A total of 62 sumo aspirants have passed preliminary physical examinations to become professional sumo wrestlers, the Japan Sumo Association (JSA) said Saturday.

Among the 62 was former all-Japan collegiate sumo quarterfinalist Norikatsu Morishita of Takushoku University, who has recently joined the Oguruma stable run by former ozeki Kotokaze.

Final results of the examinations will be announced March 9, the first day of the 15-day Spring Grand Sumo Tournament, pending internal checkups.
