Yoshie Onda, who is nursing an injured right leg, will skip the upcoming Grand Prix figure skating final, officials of the Japan Skating Federation (JSF) said Friday.
Onda, who missed the Winter Asian Games as well as the Four Continents Championships this month due to injury, will sit out the ladies' competition at the meet scheduled for Feb. 28-March 2 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
"Her condition has improved somewhat but, considering preparation for the World Championships in March, we want to take extra precautions," JSF official Noriko Shirota said.
The top six ranked figure skaters at the Grand Prix series of competitions are selected to compete at the final.
