Japan striker Naohiro Takahara opened his Bundesliga account in dramatic fashion on Sunday, grabbing an injury-time equalizer to earn a point for Hamburg SV in a 1-1 draw away to champion Bayern Munich.
As the game entered its final seconds, Takahara headed past Oliver Kahn to score his first league goal in his third game for Hamburg and also end the German 'keeper's record run without conceding a goal.
"It's a relief and has taken a big weight off my shoulders," Takahara said. "It feels great to score my first goal past Kahn and will give me a lot of confidence."
Peru striker Claudio Pizarro had put the home side in front in the 11th minute after connecting with a Ze Roberto cross.
Midway through the first half, Kahn broke his own league record of 736 minutes without letting in a goal although he could do nothing about Takahara's late strike, which saw the run end at 802 minutes.
The 23-year-old, whose 26 goals in 27 games last season helped Jubilo Iwata seal a two-stage double in the J. League, got on the end of a cross by Mehdi Mahdavikia to level the score.
"I'm really happy for Takahara. He's created a little bit of history today and I'm sure the people in Japan will be talking about him," Hamburg coach Kurt Jara said.
Hamburg lies seventh on 30 points, 14 behind leader Bayern.
