Asian Games champion Yasuyuki Muneta beat Hiroaki Takahashi to win the heavyweight title Sunday as host Japan added three more victories to complete a sweep of seven weight categories at the Kano Cup international tournament.
Muneta pinned Sydney Olympic bronze medalist Tamerlan Tmenov of Russia down to the mat in the semifinals and then knocked down Takahashi with 18 seconds left in the over 100-kg final for his fourth ippon victory of the day at Nippon Budokan.
Takahashi took the lead with a "keikoku" penalty point given to Muneta with 1:35 remaining but failed to hold on and missed out on another title after winning last year's national weight-class crown.
In the 90-kg class, Yuta Yazaki outpointed Hiroshi Izumi thanks to an effective leg trip with 36 seconds left in the final.
