Defending champion Martina Hingis, who is recuperating from ankle surgery, has withdrawn from the Toray Pan Pacific Open, organizers said Friday.
Hingis had announced her pullout from the Australian Open that begins Jan. 13 and will then miss the Jan. 28-Feb. 2 Toray tournament at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
The former world No. 1 beat Monica Seles to win this year's Toray title, three months before having surgery on her left knee.
