Japan midfielder Hidetoshi Nakata had an off day Saturday as Parma's three-match winning streak came to an end after a 2-1 defeat away at Bologna in the Italian first division.

Nakata was perfectly positioned to give the visitors the lead in the 28th minute but Brazilian Adriano sneaked in ahead of him to grab the glory by sliding home a loose ball after Simone Barone's initial shot had been deflected.

Adrian Mutu went close with a curling effort that went inches wide as Parma pushed for a second but two goals inside two minutes from Julio Cruz put Bologna in command.

Nakata, who will feature in a World Selection against Real Madrid in next week's match at the Bernabeu Stadium, failed to find his rhythm and was limited to a handful of half chances that all went well wide of the target. He was substituted for Matteo Brighi in the 72nd minute.

In another Serie A match, Chievo Verona kept in touch with the leading pack with a comfortable 3-0 win at Piacenza.
