Sayuri Osuga gave host Japan its second victory in as many days Sunday, winning the women's 500 meters with a domestic rink record for her first title in a World Cup speedskating meet.

In the men's 500, world record-holder Hiroyasu Shimizu finished runnerup to Canadian Jeremy Wotherspoon for the second straight day in the World Cup season-opening series for sprint races.

Osuga, who won the silver medal in the 500-meter time trials in cycling at the Asian Games in October, launched a rocket start and went on to cross the finish line at the M-Wave arena in 38.43 seconds.

The 22-year-old edged German Monique Garbrecht-Enfeldt by 0.06, with China's Wang Manli finishing third in 38.55.
