J. League first-division club FC Tokyo has parted company with Brazilian striker Edmundo following stalled talks on a new contract, club officials said Friday.
Edmundo, whose current deal expires Jan. 1, made his debut for FC Tokyo in October last year and helped it stay in the top flight before scoring 16 goals this season to finish fifth in the league's goal-scoring chart.
The 31-year-old former Brazilian international played through the final weekend of league action despite the shocking news that his younger brother was shot to death in Brazil in November.
