Yomiuri Giants right-hander Masumi Kuwata on Thursday got a 100 million yen pay raise and re-signed a single-year contract with the Japan Series champion worth an estimated 240 million yen.
Kuwata, who made a dramatic comeback to the five-man rotation, will also receive a bonus of 100 million yen for opting to remain with the Central League club instead of exercising his rights as a free agent.
This past season, the 34-year-old compiled a 12-6 record while leading the league with a 2.22 ERA.
