Shingo Katayama and Masashi "Jumbo" Ozaki both equaled the course record of 8-under-par 62 Thursday to take the joint lead after the first round of the season-ending Nippon Series JT Cup.
Katayama had just 22 putts in a round which featured eight birdies, including five in the opening seven holes. Veteran Ozaki holed his second shot for an eagle on the par-4 fifth and also carded seven birdies to join Katayama at the top of the leaderboard at Tokyo Yomiuri Country Club. South Korean Kim Jong Duck fired a 64 and is two off the pace in third.
