Japan midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura fired home a first-half penalty as struggling Reggina earned a valuable point after a 1-1 draw at home to fifth-place Chievo on Saturday in the Italian first division.

Nakamura, who had shrugged off a nagging hamstring injury earlier in the week, was at the heart of an impressive opening by the home side and scored his fifth goal of the season from the spot in the 23rd minute after a hand ball by Nicola Legrottaglie in the area.

Legrottaglie made amends just after the break, scrambling home from close range four minutes into the second half to level the score.

Reggina remains third from the bottom in the Serie A with seven points in 12 games.
