Yokozuna Musashimaru underwent surgery on his injured left wrist at a hospital in Saga Prefecture on Tuesday and is expected to be discharged in two weeks.
The 31-year-old grand champion damaged ligaments in his left wrist in the buildup to the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament and had to pull out five days into the meet after aggravating the injury on Nov. 12.
He will miss the New Year tournament.
