Former national champion Takehiro Kashima won Japan's first medal at the gymnastics World Championships after taking bronze in the men's pommel horse final Saturday.
After qualifying in fourth place from Friday's semifinals, Kashima earned 9.687 points for his performance in the final to finish third behind Olympic and world champion Marius Urzica of Romania and China's Qin Xiao.
