Japan's Yoshie Onda failed in her quest for a second straight figure skating Grand Prix title when she surrendered her overnight lead and settled for second at the Lalique Trophy on Saturday.

Onda, who became the first Japanese woman to win a Grand Prix when she triumphed at the Bofrost Cup in Germany last week, led after the short program but was unable to execute a triple axel and fell on a triple lutz, handing the gold to American Sasha Cohen.

"I made some mistakes but I'm satisfied with the way I'm skating at the moment," said the 19-year-old student from Aichi Prefecture.

Takeshi Honda, who won the Skate Canada International for his first Grand Prix victory outside Japan two weeks ago, finished third in the men's competition. Honda, second after the short program, put his hand on the ice on a quadruple jump in an error-strewn free skate.

American Michael Weiss leaped from fifth place to win gold.
