The Chiba Lotte Marines are on the verge of signing former Yokohama BayStars infielder Bobby Rose, sources at the Pacific League club said Saturday.

Lotte and Rose have reached a basic agreement on a one-year deal carrying an 80-million yen annual salary, two years after the 35-year-old left Japanese baseball after eight seasons with Yokohama.

Rose won the Central League RBI title in 1993 in his first season in Japan. In 1999, he led the league with a. 369 average and 153 RBIs, one year after leading Yokohama to a Japan Series title.

Yokohama released Rose following the 2000 season after their contract talks ended in failure.
