The Chunichi Dragons are set to acquire right-hander Marc Valdes, who was released by the Hanshin Tigers last week, Chunichi officials said Thursday.
Chunichi obtained the right to negotiate a deal with Valdes after the 30-year-old closer was placed on waivers on Oct. 31 having been left out of manager Senichi Hoshino's plans for the next season. Valdes was 4-3 with 22 saves and a 1.54 ERA this season in his first year in Japan.
