Japanese midfielder Shinji Ono scored his third league goal of the season to seal a 2-0 win for Feyenoord away at FC Groningen in the Dutch first division on Sunday.

Groningen had the better of the opening 45 minutes but it was the visitors that broke the deadlock five minutes after the interval as Thomas Buffel capitalized on a mistake by Puis Ikedia before firing home following good work from Chong Song Gug.

Ono then put the icing on the cake when he slid home Brett Emerton's cross from the right in the 64th minute to bag all three points for Bert van Marwijk's men.

"We looked out of sorts until we took the lead and overall it wasn't a particularly good performance today," said Ono.

"The main thing is that we won. I knew where Brett was going to put the cross so I just had to make sure I buried it," he added.

The win moved third-placed Feyenoord on to 20 points, six behind league-leader Ajax, which beat Willem II Tilburg 3-0 at home and four adrift of PSV Eindhoven.
